Villa Kokkonen – Internationally significant house to visit Video
Villa Kokkonen was the scene where the most well-known Finnish opera was composed beside the lake Tuusulanjärvi. The Last Temptations is composer Joonas Kokkonen’s (1921-1996) master work. Architect Alvar Aalto, a friend of Kokkonen, designed the house in 1969. Aalto’s goal was to offer a place to Kokkonen where to create a new opera. One year ago, Villa Kokkonen was invited to the international network of architecturally significant houses, Iconic Houses. The network brings to the map internationally significant houses from the 20th century which are open to the public as museums. Take a tour outside the house in the autumn softness!
Villa Kokkonen was made for music
Last four years two performing artists, pianist Elina Viitaila and and opera singer Antti A. Pesonen have kept Villa Kokkonen open to the public, connecting music and architecture with a friendly touch.
Writer is a part of the big Kokkonen family tree.
