We are happy to have so many readers outside Finland! We will tell you about Finland’s four seasons as we Finns experience it.

Welcome to a journey to Finland and all the things Finnish. The four seasons provide a rhythm to Finnish life. The spring light wakens us from the sleep of the polar night to check on the advance of summer and the awakening of nature.

Summer in turn is a time of many festivals and relaxing in the summer cottage. In autumn we gather in the harvest and begin actively working and studying. The long autumn climaxes with the Finnish Christmas so rich in seasonal atmosphere. Winter darkness is calming and it is nice to light a log fire, curl up on the sofa to read a book, and, of course heat the Sauna. Come and expierience all the seasons have to offer, Finland as we expierience it.

Thanks to the increasing light, spring comes quite quickly in Finland. Every day the eye sees some long-awaited signs of spring and the approaching summer: Wood Anemones, Coltsfoot, and Birmstone butterflies. Soon all the yards, fields and roadsides are blooming with flowers. Lilacs and Rowan dazzle you in the gardens.

The woods are also once more full of life and birdsong as the migratory birds return to their familiar nesting places.

Finns are pleased, for example, that House Martins fly all the way from South Africa to nest in the Finnish light nights.

Birdwatchers have plenty to tick off when they follow the spring and autumn migrations. In summer this interesting hobby can be pursued right through the nightless night. All old saying tells of the coming of spring through the order in which birds arrive:
” A month from the Skylark to summer,
two weeks from the Chaffinch,
soon after the White Wagtail barely
a day after the Barn Swallow.”

The story of Finland will be continuing in a few weeks. Then we will see what finns are doing in the summer.

5. My boyfriend is

   My boyfriend is an Aussie and is coming to Finland pretty soon. I think he would love seeing this book, since he has never been here before. I obviously have been around and especially in the summer time I love how it is so green and all the lakes around make it so beautiful. It is nice hanging out in the countryside and just enjoying the nature. But I wouldn’t change the 4season year to anything either.

13. Finland is great,

    Finland is great, I have been there a couple of times over the years and have experienced many memorable moments in your country. Helsinki, Tampere, Turku are beautiful cities and the coastal areas of southwestern Finland are really nice and a treat for the soul. Soon I will visit Finland once again, looking forward to it already!

21. We have had

    We have had a lot of visitors from abroad over the years and they have all liked Finland, especially our nature gets a lot of praces. We, of course, are glad to show our beautiful country and if I would win, I would take this book with me to North Italy and show it to our friend, who haven´t been to Finland yet. I´m sure the book and all the lovely pictures in it would result in us having even more visitors.
